July 2010
Friday 30
07:00 PM

Michel St-Pierre - guitare / Jonathan Charbonneau - guitare / Claude Kauffman - saxophone / Daniel Labrosse - contrebasse

SAMUEL BLAIS QUARTET

Samuel Blais started playing the saxophone at age 10. He honed his craft while studying classical music at the Montreal Conservatory of Music, as well as earning a Bachelor's degree in jazz performance at McGill University and a Master's degree in jazz performance at Manhattan School of Music. The emerging Canadian saxophonist is also an accomplished composer, having written seven of the nine original tracks on his debut album, Where to go, which was released in 2008 to positive reviews.

Saturday 31

Damien Levasseur - guitare / Simon Pagé - basse / Lou Boustani - guitare

FéLIX STüSSI TRIO

Félix Stüssi has always been a composer in the true sense of the word. His approach is very eclectic. The result, however, is homogeneous and authentic. This is mostly due to the fact that he has studied (masters degree in ethnomusicology, University of Zurich, 1997) and incorporated the different sources of inspiration into his own playing and writing.

Félix Stüssi - piano / Daniel Lessard - double bass / Michel Berthiaume - drum

KALMUNITY VIBE COLLECTIVE

The Kalmunity Vibe Collective has put together a special jazz project. Original compositions and collective "live organic improv" are the points of departure. Elements of dub /reggae, funk, hip-hop, afro-beat and r'n'b are integrated into a jazz conception, allowing the musicians to reflect their experiences (musical and otherwise) in the moment. Their performances blur the line between improvisation and real-time composition, making each set a unique experience.

Malika Tirolien - vocal / Andres Vial - electric piano / Martin Heslop - bass / Jahsun - drum / Karl Peralte - percussions / Jason Sharp, Erik Hove, Colin Power or Adam Kinner - saxophones
