Born in France, classically trained guitarist Christine Tassan moved to Québec in 1994 and has since played with a variety of musicians, namely Charles Papasoff, Jean Viau and Pierrot Fournier. In 1997 she was awarded the FrancoFolies de Montréal's Coup de Coeur prize. Inspired by the music of guitarist Django Reinhardt and European Gypsy jazz, she turned to jazz music, starting with a duo in 2000, followed by a quintet playing acoustic swing in the vein of Reinhardt's Hot Club de France. With her bands Gadjo Swing and les Imposteures, Christine Tassan created a unique repertoire that offers a mix of original Reinhardt compositions, traditional gypsy pieces, swing waltzes and French chansons with a Gypsy jazz touch.

CARLOS JIMENEZ ET SES INVITéS - BLUE NOTE SOUND QUINTET

Jazz guitarist and composer, Carlos Jiménez is a very activ musician in the Montreal jazz scene. In the past few years, he has shared the stage with some of the most expressive names of Canadian jazz. From the new generation of jazz musicians such as Josh Rager, Dave Watts, Fraser Hollins, Joel Miller, Michel Berthiaume and Vanessa Rodrigues to the established jazz veterans such as Kevin Dean, Andre White, Frank Lozano, Rémi Bolduc, Brian Hurley, Joe Sullivan, Steve Amirault and Don Thompson. His versatility and ability to play various styles on both electric and classical instruments has made him a first choice guitarist for various projects: the Joe Sullivan Big Band, the Brian Hurley Quartet, the Daniel Lessard Trio, the Jean‐Nicolas Trottier  Tentet, the Jacinta Luis Quintet and the Dorothée  Berryman Ensemble. His first recording as a leader entitled Undercurrents was released in March 2011. Along with his work as a sideman, Carlos Jiménez was featured on various recordings and radio shows such a Jazz Beat and Canada Live, produced by the CBC. He has also collaborated to the soundtrack  o  the Oscar winning short movie The Danish Poet, produced by the National Film Board of Canada. In2009, he received a studying grant from the Canada Council for  the Arts to study with American guitarist Adam Rogers, in New York. Carlos Jiménez currently teache Jazz Guitar at College Vincent d’Indy  in Montreal. He is also on faculty at the Schulic School of Music of McGill University and serves as Jazz Area  Coordinator at the  McGill Conservatory. He holds a Master’s degree and a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance from McGill University.

Ever since he came to New York in 1993 from Venezuela, Perdomo has emerged as one of the most in-demand sidemen – as evidenced by his celebrated work with a wide array of jazz and Latin stars : John Patitucci, Dave Douglas, Yosvany Terry, Ray Barretto, as well as Brian Lynch, Tom Harrell, Chico Freeman, Steve Turre, David Gilmore and Ignacio Berroa. Très en demande dans le milieu professionnel, il participe présentement à plusieurs projets de création. Simon joue du saxophone et de la basse depuis l'âge de 14 ans. Il a évolué dans des contextes de musique classique et jazz, mais aussi au sein de projets de musique africaine, cubaine et flamenco. Il s'implique beaucoup au sein de sa communauté artistique.

Montalvo Flamenko Jazz (formerly Pachuco Flamenko Jazz) is a project led by Jheinsen Montalvo (El Pachuco), Montreal guitarist, of Salvadorian origin, having learned Flamenco Guitar in Andalusia (Spain) and from international masters. It is a group of variable ensembles: quintet, quartet, trio or duo. Inspired by the flamenco/jazz movement, it features original music after his self-titled EP. The repertoire consists of bulerías, alegrías, tangos and other ''palos flamenco'' with jazzy arrangements which allow the remarkable improvisation of high caliber musicians. We find the spirit and rhythm of flamenco alongside the sophisticated jazz harmony. Set as a duo, guitar-piano, for this occasion.

LES MARDIS JAZZ GUITARE - 6 à 8 AVEC IVAN GARZON ET SES INVITéS

Depuis son arrivée à Montréal, où il s’est installé en octobre 2007, Ivan Garzón a gagné à deux reprises le Grand prix de guitare de Montréal en 2008 et 2009 et s’est produit sur de nombreuses scènes et dans plusieurs festivals, entre autres, au Salon de la guitare dans le cadre du Festival de Jazz de Montréal en 2009 et 2010, en 2012 il a été nominé pour le Grand Prix jazz TD et le Prix Etoiles Galaxie, Upstairs et Deer Head inn club de jazz en Pensylvanie aux Etas Unis. En 2011, il se fait attribuer une bourse du Conseil des arts et des lettres du Quebec (Vivacité). Il a joué avec des musiciens reconnus dans la scène de jazz à Montreal. Récemment Ivan a étudié avec le célèbre saxophoniste Dave Leibman dans son atelier annuel à Pennsylvanie. À New York, Ivan a étudié aussi avec des musiciens de jazz tels que Ben Monder, Jonathan Kreisberg, Adam Rogers et Ari Hoenig. Il a fait ses études de baccalauréat à l’école Fermatta au Mexique. Il a poursuivi ses études en Espagne à l’École de musique créative de Madrid. il était membre du Denis Chang Manouche Project, gagnant du prix Les entrées en scène Loto-Québec en 2009 avec qui il s’est produit au Pacific Contact Showcase et dans plusieurs Festivals et maisons de culture partout au Quebec et en Colombie-Britannique au Mexique et en Espagne. Il s’est produit dans de nombreux festivals, centres culturels, universités, hôtels, restaurants et bars. Ivan a aussi participé à deux émissions télévisées avec un groupe de latin jazz et a remporté deux bourses du ministère de la Culture de la Ville de Mexico.

The first set fires up with Bellegarde and his trio, playing host to a range of well known talents from the Montreal scene as well as musicians from out of town. The jam opens in the second set, to any jazz musician with the confidence to step up and play…there’s an unspoken rule though: “If you can’t keep up, you shouldn’t be on stage”. A great place to play and chill…. the jam continues on into the early hours!

Gary Schwartz, senior PT Faculty member in the Music Department of Concordia University teaches jazz ensembles, improvisation, theory and guitar lessons. He has worked in organ trios, big bands; pop, ethnic, blues and funk bands and with James Brown and has played and recorded jazz in many different styles with his own groups, LETTINGO – The Music and Influence of Ornette Coleman (CD, OPUS and Montreal Arts Council Awards–2011, Concordia University-CUPFA Artistic Recognition Grant and articles in Downbeat and Guilde des Musiciens de Montréal magazines), Public Transport Project(CD), Bradyworks – Instruments of Happiness(CD), Between The Lines, Inside/Out, Tribute to Jim Hall, Johnson/Schwartz, ThrioCD(Cote, Doxas, Schwartz), JP Lambert Latin Big Band, Casa Obscura Big Band as well as with Kim Richardson(CD), Thom Gossage/Other Voices(CDs), Dave Turner, François Richard, The MSO, SMCQ and McGill Chamber Orchestras. He has performed in Jazz festivals across Canada and has worked for all the major television and radio stations in Montréal as well as in the pit bands of Les Misérables, Chicago, Showboat and Evita to name a few.

Michel St-Pierre and Lise-Anne Ross form a very dynamic and explosive guitar duo. Fueled by their mutual passion for Django Reinhardt's music, they decided many years ago to get together with Claude Kaufman on saxophone and Daniel Labrosse on upright bass to bring this music and culture to the masses. Their repertoire touches 30's & 40's Swing Jazz, bossa novas, ballades and even a few Édith Piaf waltzes, all done in the manouche style.
