MARIE-FATIMA RUDOLF TRIO

Toronto-born pianist Marie-Fatima Rudolf began piano lessons at the age of four. The daughter of two jazz musicians, she studied classical music for nearly fifteen years, thus developing good technical ability and a good ear. In her last year of high-school she performed Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue at the Toronto Centre for the Performing Arts. She then moved to Montreal to begin a degree in Jazz Performance at McGill University, studying primarily with Jeff Johnston. Since her graduation in 2005, Marie-Fatima has been playing in various Montreal venues : Kemia, Quai des Brumes, Absinthe, Upstairs, Cafe Sarajevo, Bily Kun. She played at Sala Rossa with her trio as a part of the Suoni Music Festival, and was recently resident artist at the Upstairs. Marie-Fatima plays mainly with her trio, MM3, the preferred formation for her melodic compositions and colourful arrangements of jazz standards. Her inspirations vary from classical to hip-hop to soul, and the group’s music always reflects creativity, honesty, sensitivity and freshness.

JEAN-MICHEL PILC PIANO SOLO

Jean-Michel Pilc (born 1960 in Paris, France) is a self-taught jazz pianist currently residing in Montreal. His technical ability has drawn comparisons to Michel Petrucciani, McCoy Tyner, and Cecil Taylor. Of particular note is Pilc's left-hand technique, which provides an almost ambidextrous approach to the keyboard. In addition to his own projects, he is a member of a group led by drummer Ari Hoenig.

JAM SESSION ANIMé PAR ALEX BELLEGARDE TRIO

Alex Bellegarde’s dynamic Tuesday jam session has become one of Montreal’s hippest weekly jazz events. The first set fires up with Bellegarde and his trio, playing host to a range of well known talents from the Montreal scene as well as musicians from out of town. The jam opens in the second set, to any jazz musician with the confidence to step up and play…there’s an unspoken rule though: “If you can’t keep up, you shouldn’t be on stage”. A great place to play and chill…. the jam continues on into the early hours!

DANIEL THOUIN ET INVITéS

Daniel Thouin was 7 when he first sat behind the family organ. Ten years later, he was studying classical piano. Soon, he started flirting with the jazz scene. Then, he took an interest in electronica and pop music, collaborating with the likes of Mara Tremblay, Yann Perreau and Marie-Jo Thério. In 2002, Thouin assembled the Large Ensemble, an all-star local group mixing jazz and rock. Informed by Miles Davis' late sixties experiments, Thouin and friends (Yannick Rieu, Olivier Langevin...) used the band to flex their improvisational muscles.

CARL MAYOTTE - LANCEMENT DE DISQUE

Carl Mayotte's very first solo album, Fantosme, will be released on September 27th. This 10 pieces album is both a homage and an invocation to a decade that had significant influence on him: the 1970s.This album is filled with delightful solos, virtuosity, sensibility and joy. Assisted by several exceptional young musicians, Québec jazz legends such as Jean-Pierre Zannella or Luc Boivin and guided by a phenomenal mentor in Michel Cusson of UZEB, this first opus truly is dreams come true but most importantly the inaugural brick in the foundation of many projects in his young professional career. One of the highlight of this record is the fact that it was accomplished by musicians from both Québec City and Montréal in equal parts. Such collaborations are rare and it is one to listen to on repeat.
