JAZZ BRUNCH AVEC LE DIXIEBAND QUARTET

Since 1980, Le Dixieband has been bringing bright new shadings, vitality and intensity to the redhot strains and the hard-driving rhythms of traditional New Orleans jazz. Its dynamic, seasoned musicians have set themselves apart from similar groups by their one-of-a-kind mastery of a unique repertoire performed in the purest down-home style. Le Dixieband has won a reputation for the musical quality and liveliness of its arrangements, for a crowd-pleasing style that blends humor with verve, for its drive and dapper period costumes. Its three CDs pay scintillating tribute to the music of the twenties, infectious music that sets toes tapping and brings smiles to faces everywhere: the sound people love to discover... and rediscover.

JAM SESSION ANIMé PAR ALEX BELLEGARDE TRIO

Alex Bellegarde’s dynamic Tuesday jam session has become one of Montreal’s hippest weekly jazz events. The first set fires up with Bellegarde and his trio, playing host to a range of well known talents from the Montreal scene as well as musicians from out of town. The jam opens in the second set, to any jazz musician with the confidence to step up and play…there’s an unspoken rule though: “If you can’t keep up, you shouldn’t be on stage”. A great place to play and chill…. the jam continues on into the early hours!

Marc Copland (born May 29, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American jazz pianist and composer. Copland became part of the jazz scene in Philadelphia in the early 1960s as a saxophonist, and later moved to New York.   In the early 1970s, while pursuing his own harmonic concept, he grew dissatisfied with what he felt were inherent limitations in the saxophone and moved to the Baltimore-Washington D.C. area, where he remained for a decade to retrain as a jazz pianist. He returned to New York in the mid-1980s, his own keyboard style firmly in place. Since that time Copland has enjoyed considerable success, both as a solo performer and a group leader.   He is generally regarded as a harmonic innovator, and perhaps the leading exponent today of the school of lyrical jazz piano.   Acclaimed recordings include "Night Whispers" (Down Beat Magazine/USA list of best CDs of the decade), "Crosstalk" ("Choc" Jazz Magazine/Fr), and other projects with musicians including musicians and collaborators such as John Abercrombie, Drew Gress, Greg Osby, Gary Peacock, and Bill Stewart.
