SUSIE ARIOLI QUARTET

A native of Toronto, Susie lives in Montreal, where she began her band in 1996 and made nine records, her last with a new band that also showcases her songwriting. Her records have garnered numerous Juno and Felix nominations, winning a Felix for the album, All The Way, 2012, and Susie, as Jazz vocalist, on her album, Spring, 2015. Her band's live DVD/CD, from 2007, went gold, as did their Christmas album, Christmas Dreaming, 2011. Susie also won the Oscar Peterson prize in 2009. Susie is known for her silky tone and her interpretive skill, as well as her sense of humour at her live shows.

SAMUEL BLAIS QUARTET

Recently awarded with the "Jazz Revelation for 2011-2012 by Radio-Canada" Samuel Blais has won several classical music competitions starting around age 15. He studied at the Montreal Conservatory of Music for 3 years after which he moved on to Jazz at McGill University where he completed a bachelors degree in Jazz Performance which led him to continue his musical education at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York, obtaining a Masters degree in Jazz Performance.  The 3 years he spent in New York allowed him to perfect his art and to perform with worldwide renown musicians such as Greg Osby, David Liebman, Jim Black, Larry Grenadier, Nate Smith, Donny McCaslin, Jamie Baum, Ari Hoenig, Terri Lyne Carrington etc. Samuel Blais performed extensivly in the USA and Canada, as well as in France, Belgium, Mexico and Hong Kong. During his studies, Samuel had the opportunity to study with David Liebman, Dick Oatts, Greg Osby, Rémi Bolduc, Steve Slagle, Frank Lozano, Jan Jarczyk and many more.  He was awarded scholarships from Manhattan School of Music, McGill University, Canada Council for the Arts, Quebec Council for the Arts, MusicAction as well as from the « L.A. Friends of Jazz » while on tour with the McGill Jazz Orchestra I. After producing his first record in 2008, « Where to Go »(FND080), he comes back with a new record called « New Angle »(FND104).  This new CD has been acclaimed by critics and was nominated for Best Jazz Record at the ADISQ Gala and even won a Prix Opus for Best Jazz Album 2010-11.

7 à 9 AVEC MONTALVO FLAMENKO JAZZ QUARTET

Montalvo Flamenko Jazz (formerly Pachuco Flamenko Jazz) is a project led by Jheinsen Montalvo (El Pachuco), Montreal guitarist, of Salvadorian origin, having learned Flamenco Guitar in Andalusia (Spain) and from international masters. It is a group of variable ensembles: quintet, quartet, trio or duo. Inspired by the flamenco/jazz movement, it features original music after his self-titled EP. The repertoire consists of bulerías, alegrías, tangos and other ''palos flamenco'' with jazzy arrangements which allow the remarkable improvisation of high caliber musicians. We find the spirit and rhythm of flamenco alongside the sophisticated jazz harmony. Set as a duo, guitar-piano, for this occasion.

LES MARDIS BIG BAND - TAYLOR DONALDSON BIG BAND

Taylor Donaldson is an active member of the Montreal music scene, working as a trombonist, composer/arranger and music copyist. He directs his own 17-piece big band that plays from a growing book of his arrangements and compositions, along with music written by other members of the group. The band's repertoire brings together jazz standards and original compositions in the great tradition of big band jazz. Two sets of swinging, straight-ahead music on the menu for Big Band Tuesdays!

Alex Bellegarde’s dynamic Tuesday jam session has become one of Montreal’s hippest weekly jazz events. The first set fires up with Bellegarde and his trio, playing host to a range of well known talents from the Montreal scene as well as musicians from out of town. The jam opens in the second set, to any jazz musician with the confidence to step up and play…there’s an unspoken rule though: “If you can’t keep up, you shouldn’t be on stage”. A great place to play and chill…. the jam continues on into the early hours!

If you’re a fan of the acoustic sound of guitars, saxophone and upright bass, then you’re in for a treat. On the menu, authentic swing and a few seldomly heard classic songs. Eclectic Django (for the great Django Reinhardt) perform an American and European repertoire of pre-war jazz, but don’t be surprised if you recognize a classic French tune or two - jazz music permitting all incursions. This early evening event has been animating the Wednesdays of the Dièse Onze for six years already - and there’s no signs of quitting! 6 à 8 AVEC CHRISTINE TASSAN ET SES INVITéS

Born in France, classically trained guitarist Christine Tassan moved to Québec in 1994 and has since played with a variety of musicians, namely Charles Papasoff, Jean Viau and Pierrot Fournier. In 1997 she was awarded the FrancoFolies de Montréal's Coup de Coeur prize. Inspired by the music of guitarist Django Reinhardt and European Gypsy jazz, she turned to jazz music, starting with a duo in 2000, followed by a quintet playing acoustic swing in the vein of Reinhardt's Hot Club de France. With her bands Gadjo Swing and les Imposteures, Christine Tassan created a unique repertoire that offers a mix of original Reinhardt compositions, traditional gypsy pieces, swing waltzes and French chansons with a Gypsy jazz touch.

CONCERT DES CLASSES D’ARRANGEMENT DE JEAN-NICOLAS TROTTIER - BIG BAND

Jean-Nicolas Trottier is an active jazz trombone player on the Montreal music scene since 2000.  In addition of playing in various groups like  Joe Sullivan Bigband, Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra, le Jazzlab Orchestra, Trombone Action, L’ensemble Rémi-Jean Leblanc and Rémi Bolduc & Random Masters, he is leader of his own projects like JNT 3, Jean-Nicolas Trottier 4tet, Jean-Nicolas Trottier 10tet and Jean-Nicolas Trottier Bigband.  Over the years, he collaborated, as a composer and arranger, with different ensembles such as l’Orchestre National de Jazz de Montréal, L’orchestre de Contrebasse du Québec, L’Orchestre Symphonique de Gatineau, L’Orchestre Symphonique de Québec et Imusici de Montréal. Jean-Nicolas is also teaching jazz trombone, composition and arranging at McGill University anUniversity of Montréal.

YANNICK RIEU QUARTET

Composer and tenor saxophonist Yannick Rieu is one of the finest musicians - in any genre of music - to have emerged from Québec, and one who’s also enjoyed an international career for many years, particularly in France. As early as 1988, Down Beat, the American bible of jazz, ranked him amongst the 20 most promising sax players in the world along side Branford Marsalis, Joe Lovano and Courtney Pine. Since then, he’s been collecting rave reviews in jazz publications in the U.S., France and Canada for his recordings and his live performances.

As a performer, she pursues an active career in a variety of settings ranging from solo performance to more intimate duos and trios, and larger groups as quintet, septet, Trifolia and large ensembles. She has played in Canada, United States, France, Spain, Germany, and Mexico. Recipient of the Prix Étoiles Galaxie de Radio-Canada (Montreal Jazz Festival 2007), Marianne Trudel has presented multiple artistic projects that not only bring her considerable skills to the fore but also her keen sense of creativity. She has shared the stage with, among others, in jazz and improvised music: Chucho Valdes, Mark Feldman, Evan Parker, Tony Malaby, René Lussier, Mark Dresser, Kenny Wheeler, Ingrid Jensen, Jon Wikan, Gerry Hemingway, William Parker, Mark Helias, Jean Derome, Karen Young, George Lewis, and Muhal Richard Abrams. In Chanson française and World / traditional music: Charles Aznavour, Lena Chamamyan, Farida, Juan Carlos Caceres and Laura Risk. She has composed and arranged for the radio of Radio-Canada, the American composers Orchestra (NYC), the ensemble OktoEcho, the Henri Mancini Institute Orchestra (Los Angeles, California), the McGill Jazz Orchestra, as well as scoring for short films. Her previous studies have included a Master in Ethnomusicology (Université de Montréal), a Bachelor in Jazz Performance (McGill University), and numerous workshops in North America and Europe.
