OLIVIER BABAZ TRIO

Bass player and composer, Olivier Babaz has gained a rich sideman experience on stage and in the studio in France, Indian Ocean and Canada. He focuses mainly on his creation projects such as Akoz duo and collaborates regularly with artists from the Montreal's scene. His music is an acoustic fusion of jazz, folk and ethnic music emphasizing compositions, improvisation and instrumental creativity.

LOUIS-VINCENT HAMEL QUINTET

Born in Quebec City, Louis-Vincent played with renowned musicians such as Ellis Marsalis, Yannick Rieu, Rémi Bolduc, Rafael Zaldivar, Luis Perdomo and Samuel Blais. He is a member of numerous groups including Hornet, No Codes, Emilio Reyna Ensemble, Simon Legault Quintet, Alex Francoeur Group, Gilles Bernard Quartet and Gentiane MG Trio. In 2015, he won the 2015 Opus Prize for jazz concert of the year with the Rémi Bolduc Quartet, as well as the François-Marcaurelle Prize for best performance at the OFF Jazz Festival in 2017 and 2018. He obtained the McGill Graduate Excellence Fellowship in 2016 and the Jacqueline Lallemand Bursary in 2013.

SUSIE ARIOLI QUARTET

A native of Toronto, Susie lives in Montreal, where she began her band in 1996 and made nine records, her last with a new band that also showcases her songwriting. Her records have garnered numerous Juno and Felix nominations, winning a Felix for the album, All The Way, 2012, and Susie, as Jazz vocalist, on her album, Spring, 2015. Her band's live DVD/CD, from 2007, went gold, as did their Christmas album, Christmas Dreaming, 2011. Susie also won the Oscar Peterson prize in 2009. Susie is known for her silky tone and her interpretive skill, as well as her sense of humour at her live shows

YANNICK RIEU QUARTET

Composer and tenor saxophonist Yannick Rieu is one of the finest musicians - in any genre of music - to have emerged from Québec, and one who’s also enjoyed an international career for many years, particularly in France. As early as 1988, Down Beat, the American bible of jazz, ranked him amongst the 20 most promising sax players in the world along side Branford Marsalis, Joe Lovano and Courtney Pine. Since then, he’s been collecting rave reviews in jazz publications in the U.S., France and Canada for his recordings and his live performances.

Montalvo Flamenko Jazz (formerly Pachuco Flamenko Jazz) is a project led by Jheinsen Montalvo (El Pachuco), Montreal guitarist, of Salvadorian origin, having learned Flamenco Guitar in Andalusia (Spain) and from international masters. It is a group of variable ensembles: quintet, quartet, trio or duo. Inspired by the flamenco/jazz movement, it features original music after his self-titled EP. The repertoire consists of bulerías, alegrías, tangos and other ''palos flamenco'' with jazzy arrangements which allow the remarkable improvisation of high caliber musicians. We find the spirit and rhythm of flamenco alongside the sophisticated jazz harmony.

MARDI BIGBANDS - JOE SULLIVAN BIG BAND

Joe Sullivan comes from the Northern Ontario town of Timmins. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in classical trumpet at the University of Ottawa and his interest in jazz led him to the Berklee School of Music, then to the New England Conservatory of Music. Since then he has lived in Montreal and has been active as a performer, composer, arranger and bandleader. He has received both the Prix Socan and the Prix DuMaurier at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. He currently directs the McGill Jazz Orchestra 1 and teaches jazz composition, arranging and trumpet at McGill University, where he is an associate professor.

Alex Bellegarde’s dynamic Tuesday jam session has become one of Montreal’s hippest weekly jazz events. The first set fires up with Bellegarde and his trio, playing host to a range of well known talents from the Montreal scene as well as musicians from out of town. The jam opens in the second set, to any jazz musician with the confidence to step up and play…there’s an unspoken rule though: “If you can’t keep up, you shouldn’t be on stage”. A great place to play and chill…. the jam continues on into the early hours!

If you’re a fan of the acoustic sound of guitars, saxophone and upright bass, then you’re in for a treat. On the menu, authentic swing and a few seldomly heard classic songs. Eclectic Django (for the great Django Reinhardt) perform an American and European repertoire of pre-war jazz, but don’t be surprised if you recognize a classic French tune or two - jazz music permitting all incursions. MERCREDI FUNKJAZZ - PAPAGROOVE

A Montreal Afro-funk collective existing for the past ten years. Papagroove came to life during weekly, improvised jam sessions in autumn 2002, while its founding musicians had commitments to various other musical projects. Strong through the rich experience of each of its members, the group has created a new sound, ranging from the groove of funk to the intensity of rock, the momentum of soul to the eloquence of jazz, all firmly rooted in sturdy Afrobeat. They display their uniqueness particularly on stage, where one can experiment with all talent. The artists of PAPAGROOVE are true, energetic performers, inspiring the crowds as they allow the music to take hold of them!

THOMAS CARBOU GUITARE SOLO ET MACHINES

Prolific musician and always looping for new sounds, Thomas Carbou experiments every kind of music : jazz, traditionnel music, fusion, gospel, funk…He recorded seven CDs as a leader, one with his band Elec'Trio and two as a co-leader with the saxophone player Pierre Diaz. Very active on the French musical scene, he's beginning to become known on the international level, he has already performed overseas ; Germany, Vietnam, New York USA and Canada (Montréal) where he permanently established his resident since September 2003. Le saxophoniste Jean-Pierre Zanella et le pianiste et compositeur James Gelfand joueront un musique de Noël arrangée par James Gelfand avec des pièces du répertoire populaire, religieux et autochtone. James a fait pendant 20 ans un concert de Noël à la Chapelle historique du Bon Pasteur. Ils vont donc reprendre quelques-unes de ses magnifiques adaptations des airs de Fêtes. Les arrangements de James fait en sorte que ça semble être des pièces originales, donc du James Gelfand. Avec le bassiste Rémi-Jean LeBlanc et le batteur Jim Doxas.

MARIANNE TRUDEL

Marianne Trudel is a multi-talented pianist, composer, improvisor, and arranger. At once energetic and passionate, her music cross-cuts a wide swath of musical interests. As a performer, she pursues an active career in a variety of settings ranging from solo performance to more intimate duos and trios, and larger groups as quintet, septet, Trifolia and large ensembles. She has played in Canada, United States, France, Spain, Germany, and Mexico. Recipient of the Prix Étoiles Galaxie de Radio-Canada (Montreal Jazz Festival 2007), Marianne Trudel has presented multiple artistic projects that not only bring her considerable skills to the fore but also her keen sense of creativity. She has shared the stage with, among others, in jazz and improvised music: Chucho Valdes, Mark Feldman, Evan Parker, Tony Malaby, René Lussier, Mark Dresser, Kenny Wheeler, Ingrid Jensen, Jon Wikan, Gerry Hemingway, William Parker, Mark Helias, Jean Derome, Karen Young, George Lewis, and Muhal Richard Abrams. In Chanson française and World / traditional music: Charles Aznavour, Lena Chamamyan, Farida, Juan Carlos Caceres and Laura Risk. She has composed and arranged for the radio of Radio-Canada, the American composers Orchestra (NYC), the ensemble OktoEcho, the Henri Mancini Institute Orchestra (Los Angeles, California), the McGill Jazz Orchestra, as well as scoring for short films. Her previous studies have included a Master in Ethnomusicology (Université de Montréal), a Bachelor in Jazz Performance (McGill University), and numerous workshops in North America and Europe.

MONTALVO FLAMENKO JAZZ

Montalvo Flamenko Jazz (formerly Pachuco Flamenko Jazz) is a project led by Jheinsen Montalvo (El Pachuco), Montreal guitarist, of Salvadorian origin, having learned Flamenco Guitar in Andalusia (Spain) and from international masters. It is a group of variable ensembles: quintet, quartet, trio or duo. Inspired by the flamenco/jazz movement, it features original music after his self-titled EP. The repertoire consists of bulerías, alegrías, tangos and other ''palos flamenco'' with jazzy arrangements which allow the remarkable improvisation of high caliber musicians. We find the spirit and rhythm of flamenco alongside the sophisticated jazz harmony.

LES LUNDIS LATINS AVEC TRABUCO HABANERO

Mondays’ heat up at Dièse Onze jazz club in the company of an all-star lineup, featuring virtuosos from Montreal’s Latin jazz scene. Son, rumba, timba and salsa rhythms drive and an exciting repertoire of original compositions as well as some innovative arrangements of traditional themes drawn from the very heart of Cuba.

JAM SESSION AVEC ALEX BELLEGARDE TRIO ET INVITé

Alex Bellegarde’s dynamic Tuesday jam session has become one of Montreal’s hippest weekly jazz events. The first set fires up with Bellegarde and his trio, playing host to a range of well known talents from the Montreal scene as well as musicians from out of town. The jam opens in the second set, to any jazz musician with the confidence to step up and play…there’s an unspoken rule though: “If you can’t keep up, you shouldn’t be on stage”. A great place to play and chill…. the jam continues on into the early hours!

ECLECTIC DJANGO

If you’re a fan of the acoustic sound of guitars, saxophone and upright bass, then you’re in for a treat. On the menu, authentic swing and a few seldomly heard classic songs. Eclectic Django (for the great Django Reinhardt) perform an American and European repertoire of pre-war jazz, but don’t be surprised if you recognize a classic French tune or two - jazz music permitting all incursions. This early evening event has been animating the Wednesdays of the Dièse Onze for six years already - and there’s no signs of quitting! A friendly Atmosphere, great music and solid musicians are guaranteed - welcome!
