Cet ensemble unique comprend quelques-uns des musiciens les plus talentueux et créatifs de la scène jazz canadienne : Frank Lozano au saxophone ténor, Adrian Vedady à la contrebasse et Eric Thibodeau à la batterie. Eric tire ses influences guitaristiques de musiciens tels que Ben Monder, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Bill Frisell, Jakob Bro... Il écrit par contre une musique ou l’imagination, la sensibilité et la surprise, domine son monde musical. Saxophonist-composer-arranger, Alexandre Côté received his Bachelor of Jazz Performance from McGill University with honors. He has distinguished himself amongst many musicians including, Carl Naud, Bernard Primeau, Alain Caron, Lauraine Desmarais, Denny Christianson Big Band, Felix Stussi and Ray Anderson, the No Name Jazz Sextet, Normand Guilbault, Jean Vanasse, Vic Vogel Big Band, Effendi Jazz Lab. He furthered his skill by participating in the Banff International Jazz Workshop in 2002, led by Kenny Werner. Alexandre represented the Radio-Canada society (CBC) in the Europeen Broadcast Jazz Orchestra (EBU 2004). He also studied with renowned saxophonists Pat Labarbera, Chris Potter, Donny McCaslin and appeared on over 30 albums.

After completing his Bachelor's degree in composition and piano at the University of Toronto, pianist John Roney headed east to Montreal in 2001, where he earned a Master's in jazz performance at McGill University. A versatile musician, he is as comfortable scoring chamber music for the Silverbirch String Quartet as he is arranging songs for the popular animated film The Triplettes of Belleville.

Elements of dub /reggae, funk, hip-hop, afro-beat and r'n'b are integrated into a jazz conception, allowing the musicians to reflect their experiences (musical and otherwise) in the moment. Their performances blur the line between improvisation and real-time composition, making each set a unique experience.

Alex Bellegarde’s dynamic Tuesday jam session has become one of Montreal’s hippest weekly jazz events. The first set fires up with Bellegarde and his trio, playing host to a range of well known talents from the Montreal scene as well as musicians from out of town. The jam opens in the second set, to any jazz musician with the confidence to step up and play…there’s an unspoken rule though: “If you can’t keep up, you shouldn’t be on stage”. Composer and tenor saxophonist Yannick Rieu is one of the finest musicians - in any genre of music - to have emerged from Québec, and one who’s also enjoyed an international career for many years, particularly in France. As early as 1988, Down Beat, the American bible of jazz, ranked him amongst the 20 most promising sax players in the world along side Branford Marsalis, Joe Lovano and Courtney Pine. Since then, he’s been collecting rave reviews in jazz publications in the U.S., France and Canada for his recordings and his live performances.

Born in Ottawa, Frank Lozano studied at Humber College in Toronto with Pat LaBarbera and in Boston with Jerry Bergonzi. He has participated in the Montreal and Toronto Jazz festivals with, among others, Tito Puente and Oliver Jones. After a tour of Czechoslovakia in 1990, Lozano moved to Montreal where he joined the Bernard Primeau Jazz Ensemble. With Primeau and special guest trombonist Slide Hampton, Lozano recorded a CD and toured France. Heplays with FACT, the Montreal Jazz Big Band, Avalon, guitarist Rainer Wiens in the group Zoom Horizon, bassist Ron Séguin, René Lussier’s group Boudine and Alain Bédard’s quartet.

Pour composer son premier album de Jazz, le tromboniste Benoit Gagné a obtenu la bourse du Conseil des Arts et des lettres du Québec. Grâce à l’aide financière de Musicaction, il a enregistré l’Album Les Boppers avec le trompettiste Benoit Piché, André Leroux au saxophone, Jean Cyr à la contrebasse, Guy Dubuc au piano et Christian Lajoie à la batterie. En 2008-2009, Benoit compose sept nouveaux titres et réunit ses collègues des Boppers. Ils sont maintenant de retour sur la scène québécoise, prêts à vous présenter un spectacle aux influences Be-Bop écrit et destiné pour un grand publique.

Jean-François Groulx is a pianist multi instrumentalist, composer and arranger. He recorded 7 albums under his name among them Passage, which got a nomination at the gala de l’ADISQ, and a new one released in October 2009. His music is often a mixture of jazz and world beat influences. In 1995, he won the DuMaurier award at the Montreal jazz festival and the "Concours des Radios Publiques de Langues Française" with the Montreal quartet under the direction of Mathieu Bélanger. In 2006, he wins the André-Gagnon composer award from the SPACQ association. Also known for his work with pop artists such as BORI and Louise Forestier, he wrote the score music for l’Erreur Boréale of Richard Desjardins. From 2007 to 2009, he was musical director and composer for the tv show Ça manque à ma culture on Télé-Québec. The first set fires up with Bellegarde and his trio, playing host to a range of well known talents from the Montreal scene as well as musicians from out of town. The jam opens in the second set, to any jazz musician with the confidence to step up and play…there’s an unspoken rule though: “If you can’t keep up, you shouldn’t be on stage”. A great place to play and chill…. the jam continues on into the early hours!

Kim Zombik grew up in Boston and since 2008 has happily made Montreal her home. Described as “being a musical jewel”, Kim is a versatile singer of jazz standards, the blues, and funk music. She has shared the stage and performed with a variety of great musical legends. From Jimmy Cliff to Cecil McBee, from the New World Japan Philharmonic Orchestra to Olu Dara, from Eric Alexander to the Wailers, from Grady Tate to Yosuke Yamashita, from Maceo Parker to William Parker, and from Igor Butman to Charles Neville of the Neville Brothers, Kim has sung and swung with verve and grace. Kim delivers songs with warmth, power and experience. Her vocal style has been called “warm as hot chocolate”, “beautiful”, “natural”.

Passionnés de Django Reinhardt et de ses contemporains, Michel St-Pierre et Jonathan Charbonneau forment un duo explosif. En compagnie de Claude Kaufman au saxophone et de Daniel Labrosse à la contrebasse, l'énergie qu'ils déploient ainsi que leur symbiose sur scène ne laisse personne indifférent. Leur répertoire touche le jazz swing des années 30-40, des bossa novas, des ballades et même des valses de Piaf reprises à la manouche.
